ÉMILE PARISIEN QUARTET & THE ORCHESTRE NATIONAL DU CAPITOLE DE TOULOUSE
DIRECTED BY DAVID GREILSAMMER | CREATION
One of the particularities of Jazz in Marciac is to offer meetings between musicians practicing classical music, in this case the Orchester National du Capitole de Toulouse, and jazz ensembles, such as the Émile Parisien quartet. An original company that always has happy surprises in store. This time it is a creation especially for the festival and on the occasion of the quartet's twenty years. We no longer present here the saxophonist and conductor Emile Parisien! Pure product of the introductory jazz classes at the Marciac college. It must be said from the outset: only a die-hard like him, in whom the jolts of inspiration shine through in his stage gestures, could bring together such difficult to influence personalities for a creation of this scale. Both rigorous and enthusiastic, he explores with originality the worlds of Wayne Shorter and John Coltrane as well as the music of Stravinsky and Schönberg. Not to mention his own compositions, most often developed collectively within his famous quartet which is associated this evening with the Capitole de Toulouse orchestra.

''LES EGARÉS''
With these magicians, 2+2 no longer makes 4, but 1. Because it is indeed a unity of spirit and a fluidity of sound that these individuals invent together well-tempered to put themselves at the service of the common musical good. Neither jazz nor traditional, neither chamber musician nor avant-garde, but a little of all of that at the same time, Les Égarés is indeed that group where the ear is the king instrument, where virtuosity is expressed in the art of being accomplice, where the simple and grandiose desire to listen to the other results in the birth of a splendid four-part song. Different and yet similar in their quest for the magical moment rewarding the musicians who listen to themselves while leaving their ego behind the scenes, those who comment while stepping aside, those who know – as was absolutely the case last year – that good music is worth this journey of the mind and the senses. Poetry, temperament, spontaneous inventions, respect: a lesson in living together applied to the stage!
